Mayer & Cie. at Colombiatex in Medellín

From January 24th to 26th 2017, Colombiatex was held in Medellín, Colombia. It is the country’s biggest trade fair in the textiles and garment sector. The exhibition enjoys popularity not only within Colombia but also in the neighbouring countries. For the first time, Mayer & Cie. (MCT) participated in Colombiatex as an exhibitor. Retexa, its Colmbian sales agent, represented the German circular knitting machines manufacturer at the event. At Retexa, a generation change will be forthcoming soon, when Alejandro Blandon, Libardo Blandon’s and Ilse Restrepo’s son will take over his parents’ sales agency. For Mayer clients in Colombia, this means continuity and time-tested support.

As Colombiatex’ focus is less on textile production but rather on fashion, Mayer & Cie. decided to do without a machine exhibit. Instead, the company presented samples of peculiar patterns and fabrics, which were displayed in connection with the corresponding Mayer machines. The presentation was met with interest; the team at the booth counted numerous visitors on all fair days who enquired about machines for single jersey, 8-lock structures and interlock machines. The Mayer and Retexa team also observed a rising interest in both striping and electronic machines. This particularly applies to the OVJA 2.4 E and OVJA 1.6 EM. The former is used for producing fabrics for fashionable outerwear, as it reliably knits all structures including relief patterns. The OVJA 1.6 EM is a machine particularly designed for producing mattress cover fabrics. Mayer & Cie. received several orders for these machines, and there is a good prospect that more will follow soon.

Horst Maier, MCT Sales Manager Latin America, considers the show’s participation a success. “It was important to participate in Colombiatex as an exhibitor. Even though the fair is about fashion and garment and not so much about textile machinery, it may be a good idea for us to come back in a few years, and do an info booth again.”
